BSS

BASE STATION SYSTEM (BSS)

All functions are run by BSS radio link. BSS consists of transcoder controller (TRC), Base Station Controller (BSC) and Radio Base Station (RBS).

TRANSCODER CONTROLLER ( TRC )

TRC connects BSS with speed adaptation capability. Devices that run the speed of adaptation is called transcoder. Bit rate per channel was reduced from 64 Kbps to 16 Kbps. This secures the transmission path between the MSC to the BSC.

BASE STATION CONTROLLER ( BSC )
BSC manages all functions of the GSM radio link. BSC is a large-capacity switch that provides functions such as handover HP, providing a radio channel, and a collection of configuration data a few cells. Some of the BSC can be controlled by each MSC.

RADIO BASE STATION ( RBS )
RBS controls the radio link to mobile phones. The RBS can serve 1, 2, or 3 cell. Some RBS controlled by one BSC. Ericsson has 2 types of base stations, the RBS 200 and RBS 2000.
